SINGAPORE — A Singaporean woman who went missing while on holiday in Spain has been found dead with multiple stab wounds, Spanish media reported on Wednesday (April 17).

A Singaporean man has been arrested in connection with her death.

Ms Audrey Fang, 39, arrived in the country for the solo trip on April 4 and had been due to return to Singapore on April 12.

She had been scheduled to stay at a luxury hotel in the town of Javea on Spain's eastern coast until April 10, but was last heard from on April 9.

She reportedly went missing after leaving her room at about 8.45pm that day. Her belongings were left in her room and she did not board her flight back to Singapore from Barcelona.

Ms Fang's body was reportedly found with multiple stab wounds near a parking area for lorries in the municipality of Abanilla on April 10, however, local authorities only identified her on Wednesday.

According to online newspaper El Espanol, her body was discovered by the chief inspector of the local police division while he was on his way to breakfast at a restaurant near the RM-422 highway in Abanilla.

Abanilla is located about 150km away from Javea. It is in the province of Murcia while Javea is in neighbouring Alicante province.

A Singaporean man was arrested by Spain's Civil Guard on Tuesday in connection with Ms Fang's death and he is expected to appear in court later this week, El Espanol said.

The newspaper added that authorities had not revealed the nature of his relationship with Ms Fang.

In response to queries from CNA on Thursday, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) said that Singapore's honorary consulate-general (HCG) in Madrid "has been in contact with the local authorities regarding the case".

"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is not in a position to comment on the case as investigations are ongoing," the spokesperson said.

"MFA and the HCG have been providing consular assistance and support to Ms Fang's family. We express our deepest condolences to the family." CNA
