To reduce crowding at FairPrice stores, offer discounts to seniors from Mondays to Fridays

In view of the Covid-19 situation and the need for safe distancing, I write to request that Singapore's leading supermarket chain NTUC FairPrice consider expanding its programme that offers discounts to senior shoppers.
Right now, Pioneer Generation seniors receive a 3 per cent discount on their purchases on Mondays and Wednesdays.
On Wednesdays, Merdeka Generation seniors also receive a 3 per cent discount.
All shoppers aged 60 and older receive 2 per cent discounts on Tuesdays.
Given that safe distancing is encouraged, and to ensure that seniors do not flock to the supermarkets on the designated days — which they often do to enjoy savings — I urge FairPrice to consider offering these discounts from Mondays to Fridays.
The shopping hours for seniors to enjoy the discounts could also be adjusted to cover only off-peak periods such as from 2pm to 6pm.
With the discounts for seniors available on more days of the week and during off-peak periods, there would be reduced crowds, especially among cash-strapped seniors, at the supermarkets.
