SINGAPORE — There were 162 new locally transmitted cases of Covid-19 confirmed on Thursday (July 22), 87 of which have been traced to the Jurong Fishery Port cluster and another five to the one at karaoke lounges and clubs.

The total number of cases linked to the Jurong Fishery Port cluster is now 560 and the total from KTV lounges is 221.

In addition, five more cases have been traced to the cluster at the Marina Bay Sands Casino, bringing the tally there to 15.

There were 52 community cases with no known sources of infection.

In its evening update on the coronavirus situation here, the Ministry of Health (MOH) said that of the 162 cases, 59 that were linked to confirmed cases had already been placed on quarantine and another 51 linked cases were detected through surveillance testing.

Among the cases are six seniors aged above 70 who are not vaccinated or partially vaccinated and are at risk of serious illness.

The 162 locally transmitted cases were among a total of 170 new Covid-19 cases on Thursday.

The remaining eight were imported and had been placed on stay-home notices or isolated on arrival in Singapore.

Of the eight, five were detected upon arrival and the remaining three developed illness during their stay-home notice or in isolation.

In total, there are 28 active clusters in Singapore, each having between three and 560 cases.

Overall, the number of new cases in the community has soared from 127 in the week before to 883 in the past week.

The number of unlinked cases in the community has also gone up from 16 in the week before to 105 in the past week.

“The seven-day moving average number of all linked community cases and all unlinked community cases are 111.4 and 14.7 respectively,” MOH said.

Singapore’s total number of Covid-19 cases is now 63,791.

HOSPITALISED PATIENTS

As of Thursday, there are 415 Covid-19 patients who are hospitalised.

Of these, seven require oxygen support and another one is in critical condition under intensive care. All eight of them are above the age of 60. 

“None among these eight cases are fully vaccinated,” MOH added.

“There is continuing evidence that vaccination helps to prevent serious disease when one gets infected.

“Over the last 28 days, seven local cases required oxygen supplementation, were admitted to intensive care units or died. Six were unvaccinated, one was partially vaccinated and none were fully vaccinated.”

VACCINATIONS

About 6.91 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines had been given to more than 4.18 million people as of Wednesday, MOH said.

Some 2.85 million people have completed the full vaccination regimen, consisting of 120,216 recovered persons who received at least one dose and more than 2.72 million who received their second dose.

In addition, 74,052 doses of Sinovac vaccines were administered as of Wednesday, covering 64,982 individuals.
