Elena Kong, Who Starred In A Shampoo Ad With Chow Yun Fat 26 Years Ago, Says He Is Her Hiking Coach

He sweet talked her into going hiking by pushing all the right buttons…

It’s not a stretch to say that Chow Yun Fat, 67, is a poster boy for hiking in Hong Kong.

The movie legend is a regular sighting on the trails and has been credited for introducing showbiz friends like Carina Lau to the activity.

Recently, Hong Kong actress Elena Kong bumped into Fat Gor while out on a hike, so of course she had to snag a few selfies with the star and post them on social media.

"Not only do hiking and jogging keep you healthy, but you can also meet Fat Gor!" said the 51-year-old on Instagram. In her caption were hashtags “my hiking coach is Fat Gor” and “the more often you hike, the more you can meet Fat Gor”.

Turns out the pair used to be hiking buddies and Elena got into the hobby thanks to Fat Gor.

“It was his glib tongue that encouraged me to hike. He told me to keep fit so that when I work with him, I can play the female lead,” she said.

Who knew they were this close?

In fact, the pair go way back, starring in a shampoo commercial together in 1997.

Then, Elena was just 26 and working as a model, appearing in music videos and ads, while Fat Gor was already a bona fide movie star.

In the ad, they played a couple who had reunited and Fat Gor helped Elena wash her hair.

What a strange way to wash hair

It was this ad that shot Elena to fame and she went on to join Hong Kong’s Asian Television (ATV) as an actress that same year.

It was only after she joined TVB in 2009 that her acting career took off. In 2013, she won Best Supporting Actress for Triumph In the Skies II at the TVB Anniversary Awards and Best Actress for Get On A Flat in 2022.
